Volunteers work alongside staff to provide key services to residents and other Londoners. Each of our community centres for example, has a resident-led management committee, staffed by volunteers, who may organise exercise classes, hire out room, organise events and look after the centres.
In 2016 Peabody was re-accredited with an Investing in Volunteers accreditation, which recognises the excellent work we do. Personal development of our volunteers is very important to us, and we always ensure you are fully supported and get access to ongoing training. You are always reimbursed for travel and lunch expenses. We provide written references and help with finding work through our employment service.
Once a year we hold a Volunteer Awards event, a celebration and acknowledgement of the achievements of the many volunteers who work with us.
We also have an employee volunteer programme – the “Peabody Promise” – which gives staff 14 hours’ paid time off a year to help with community projects. We have more than 1000 volunteers at Peabody – many of whom are residents – and we value the contributions that they make to our communities and offices across London.
